Dr. Poussaint is known for his insightful studies into the needs of the African American family, and as a passionate advocate for more positive black images in American culture. Through his screenwriting talents, he has helped break ground in establishing the gold standard in realistic and positive depictions of African Americans on TV. A script consultant for The Cosby Show and the spin-off A Different World-- few fans realized Dr. Poussaint's inspiring role behind the scenes.

Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint, Harvard Medical School Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Program Director of the Judge Baker Children's Center, and coauthor with Dr. Bill Cosby of the book, "Come On People: From Victim to Victor" based on the themes of Cosby’s popular call-out sessions, in which he has challenged people in towns and cities across America to reclaim and restore their families and communities.
